Currently, there are no plans to mandate a conversion of AM/FM radio signals to a digital format. The new HD-radio format is a voluntary upgrade. None of the radio stations are turning off their analog broadcasts. For the foreseeable future, your existing radio will continue to pick up all the stations it does right now.

it is your choice. This is not a conversion. It is just a free version of satellite radio. Gives you more channels for stations to sell advertising, different music. TV lost the old frequency system . Radio still keeps the analog and ADDS the digital. You would need to buy a HD radio or an addon tuner to use in your car of home.
